Kaisariani is north of Pangrati, on the foot of Mt. Hymettus, about 3 km (2 miles) away from Central Athens. It is mostly known as one of the residential suburbs that welcomed thousands of Greek refugees from Asia Minor after the Smyrna catastrophe of 1922. Kaisariani Square has traditionally housed a plethora of fish tavernas.
