9 Day Colombian Escape: City to Beach
9 Day Colombian Escape: City to Beach
The captivating cities and wildlife-rich rainforests of this South American nation are on full display on this magical journey. Striking a perfect balance between urban delights and natural splendor, this trip showcases the wonders of Colombia that, while unfamiliar now, aren’t likely to stay undiscovered for long. Our advice: Get there first.
After getting settled, the adventure begins in Bogotá, Colombia’s vibrant capital, where you’ll be introduced to the country’s unique cuisine and fascinating history. At Plaza de Paloquemao, one of the city’s largest produce markets, you’ll browse the busy stalls and learn about the city’s historic downtown with an expert private chef. Later, explore the cafés, high-end restaurants, and nightspots of the lively Zona Rosa district at your leisure.
A short flight north from the capital brings you to Santa Marta, the gateway to the enveloping rainforests of Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona. Accompanied by a private guide, you’ll head deep into this stunning environment nestled amid the Sierra Nevadas in search of wild creatures and if the seas are cooperative, a spot to swim. Later, you’ll have the chance to explore some of the nearly 30,000-acre (12,000-hectare) park in search of the hundreds of exotic bird species that inhabit it on your own, explore majestic seaside Buritaca on horseback, or just unwind from the confines of your sea-view retreat before moving on to your next destination: Cartagena.
Cartagena comes by its nickname – “the Venice of Colombia” – naturally. Protected by 17th-century fortifications and UNESCO alike, a romantic allure exudes from its every winding alley and cobblestone street. You’ll experience the city’s charm first-hand on a privately guided walking tour of the old town, beginning at the iconic Plaza de los Coches and continuing to Plaza Bolivar before stopping in at the infamous Inquisition Palance. Later, get to know the city by devoting an afternoon to exploring it on your own. As incredible as that sounds, we’ve saved the best for last. Bid Colombia a fond adiós on a private full-day cruise around the majestic Islas del Rosario archipelago, a chain of 27 tiny coral islands set amid a postcard-worthy seascape of turquoise and sky-blue waters.

It has many art museums from different periods, but the most interesting is the Gold Museum with a collection of over 23,000 pre-Columbian items and the surprising opening presentation. There are many good restaurants and night clubs. |
