Antarctica Fly & Adventure Cruising

Journey through narrow straits of jaw-dropping majesty and gaze at vast glaciers of incandescent blue on this trip of a lifetime. A two-hour flight from Punta Arenas brings you to Antarctica’s doorstep where you’ll board your comfortable cruise ship. While sea conditions determine the itinerary, our ships call on remarkable places such as Deception Island — a volcanic caldera that we can sail into — and Paradise Bay, a favorite spot for Zodiac cruising to see fantastical iceberg sculptures. Few places on Earth make a deeper or more lasting impression than Antarctica.

Highlights:

  • Discover the otherworldly beauty of Antarctica from the comfort of your luxury expedition ship
  • Save precious time by swapping the Drake Passage for a flight
  • Explore the Antarctic panorama of stunning icebergs, glaciers, whales, penguins, and other wildlife

Important Trip Details:
You can expect 1 or 2 half-day excursions for each day in Antarctica depending on weather conditions. During guided shore excursions, guests break up into smaller special interest groups with several options ranging from an easy shoreline walk to a strenuous hike (1-3 hours.) Excursions may include a Zodiac cruise to observe icebergs and wildlife (1-1.5 hours.)

Day 1 A favorite stop on South American and Antarctic cruises, Punta Arenas lies within the spectacular system of fjords that dot the coast of Chile. La Cruz Hill affords commanding views of the Straits of Magellan. Visit Punta Arenas for fascinating museums, quaint restaurants filled with fresh Chilean eats, and ample opportunity to watch local penguins!
Day 2 No place on Earth quite compares to Antarctica, this stunning and vast continent is cold and windy, containing 90% of the ice in the world. Those who brave a visit here are rewarded with beautiful glaciers that must be seen to be believed, and a vast array of wildlife such as whales, penguins, Arctic foxes and seals. Antarctica is the only permanent landing area for the Emperor Penguins. Many of the historic explorer huts remain on the island for visitors to see.
Day 3 Mist, research stations, and penguins are just a few of the things that define the South Shetland Islands, an archipelago off the coast of Antarctica. These 11 Antarctic islands, most notably King George Island, have served as a base for researchers from Chile, Argentina, and a variety of other countries. The archipelago has also become a popular cruise destination for tourists to the Antarctic region.
Day 4 An island of volano's and ice, Deception Island is filled with beautiful scenery and diverse animals.
Day 5 The name is not an exaggeration. Here 100-foot high glaciers and precipitous mountains present an incomparable panorama, a riot of color in white, red, yellow and blue.
Day 6 The Lemaire Channel is a spectacular sight with enormous sheer cliffs falling straight into the sea. It's a narrow channel flanked by the Antarctic Peninsula on one side and Booth Island on the other. So photogenic is the channel that it's nicknamed 'Kodak Gap', and it's only once you're well within it that a way through is visible. Unfortunately, ice can sometimes obscure the path and ships need to retreat and sail around Booth Island. At the northern end of Lemaire Channel are a pair of tall, rounded and often snow-capped peaks known as Una's Tits that are also popular with holiday snappers. The channel was first navigated by Belgian explorer de Gerlache during his 1898 expedition aboard Belgica, and, curiously, named it after the Belgian explorer Charles Lemaire, who explored parts of the Congo.
Day 7 A favorite stop on South American and Antarctic cruises, Punta Arenas lies within the spectacular system of fjords that dot the coast of Chile. La Cruz Hill affords commanding views of the Straits of Magellan. Visit Punta Arenas for fascinating museums, quaint restaurants filled with fresh Chilean eats, and ample opportunity to watch local penguins!
Day 8 Chile is one of the longest countries in the world, with more than 6,000 miles of coastline; it contains countless beaches for trout fishing, watersports and sunbathing. Cruise ships traveling around South America dock at its many ports, and one can't help but become enveloped in the festive Latin American culture.
