Butterfly Valley And Wine Tasting
The fun begins when you and your local English speaking guide board the minibus for a ride out to Butterfly Valley on the western side of the island of Rhodes. Every year, the end of the wet season brings thousands of Jersey Tiger Moths to the area, blanketing the entire landscape in a sight that is exhilarating to behold.
This species has black and cream-colored striped wings at the top with stunning orange or yellow wings at the bottom decorated with black dots. You have the choice of paying an entrance fee and venturing further into the valley or relax in the main area and enjoy the local cafe.
Continue on to one of the best wineries in Rhodes and partake in a delicious wine tasting. While here you will have a chance to sample extra-virgin olive oil from ancient trees harvested by the ancestors, and try local honey infused with with thyme, pine, orange blossom and various spring flowers. If butterflies are not in season, an alternate would be a visit to Filerimos, a serene location home to vibrant peacocks.
