Extended Summit Drive

Extended Summit Drive Tour, Skagway

Be prepared to stand in awe of the natural beauty of southeast Alaska, British Columbia and the Yukon Territory on this Skagway sightseeing tour.

Your journey begins with a drive through the historic downtown area, which is a part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Learn about the town’s gold rush history and enjoy stories about the stampeders who passed through here in hopes of striking it rich in the Yukon.

Drive to the town overlook and get a different perspective on present day Skagway from above. Once you’ve had a chance to take photos, continue north up the Klondike Highway toward the summit of the White Pass.

On the way, you’ll pass through lush rainforest and see multiple waterfalls. There are many photo opportunities on this Skagway tour of beautiful alpine lakes, glaciers, towering snow-capped peaks, and pristine forests. At the summit, get out and stretch your legs and take in the dramatic and awe inspiring alpine landscape.

Continue from here through the Canadian customs into British Columbia. You’ll make multiple stops throughout the ride, ensuring ample photo opportunities, including the “Yukon Territory” sign, Tutshi Lake, and the Bove Island overlook.

After approximately 1 hour on the road, you’ll reach Carcross Yukon on the banks of Lake Bennett. Originally known as Caribou Crossing, this is an unincorporated community in Yukon, Canada, on Bennett Lake and Nares Lake. It is home to the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. You’ll have some free time here to explore the small local shops and enjoy great views of the lake made famous by the Klondike Gold Rush.

From Carcross, begin your journey back south to Skagway. Make a stop at the “Welcome to Alaska” sign for photos before returning to the pier.
