Girona, Figueres And Dali
Girona, Figueres and Dali
See two of the highlights of northeastern Catalonia at your own pace. Departing from Barcelona’s city center, your hostess will pass out guidebooks so you can plan your day. Upon arrival in Girona, embark on a two-hour guided walking tour led by a professional local guide. Explore the city’s fascinating history, from its Roman origins to its well-preserved medieval city walls. Walk through the Gothic Quarter and the old Jewish Quarter, where you’ll uncover centuries of history along the winding cobblestone streets. Visit the Gothic Cathedral, one of the city’s most important landmarks, and view sacred objects from the Cathedral Treasury. You will also see the Arab Baths, a stunning example of Romanesque architecture. After your tour, enjoy free time to explore further and have lunch on your own.
Next, travel to Figueres, the birthplace of artist Salvador DalÃ. During your free time, explore the Dalà Theatre-Museum, which was rebuilt after the original structure was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. Admission to the museum is included in your tour price. Inside, admire an extensive collection of DalÃ’s artwork, spanning from paintings to immersive installations. Highlights include the “Rainy Taxi,” the “Sala Mae West,” and DalÃ’s crypt, where the artist is buried.
Your tour also includes entrance to the Joies Dalà exhibit, a two-floor gallery featuring DalÃ’s jewel collection, as well as sketches and paintings he created while designing these masterpieces.
At the appointed time, meet your transportation for the two-hour drive back to Barcelona, arriving in the city center in the evening.
Please Note: This tour is narrated in both English and Spanish. Entrance to the Girona Cathedral is not included in the price of this tour (approximately 7 EUR per person). Although your hostess on the bus is not a trained guide, she will be able to offer suggestions on sightseeing, shopping and dining in Girona and Figueres. Your guidebook will also include discounts at places of interest, restaurants and shops. Your tour departs from and returns to the Placa Catalunya area. The placa is the city center and the place where the old city (Gothic Quarter and Raval) and the 19th-century-built Eixample meet. Some of the city’s most important streets and avenues meet in Placa Catalunya: Passeig de Gracia, La Rambla, Portal de l’Angel and Ronda Universitat.
