Journey To St. Catherine Monastery

Journey to St. Catherine Monastery

Learn about St. Catherine and take a tour of the monastery then it’s onto to Dahab for some serious shopping, sightseeing and lunch.

Your expert guide will greet you and take you by car for a scenic ride to St. Catherine’s Monastery, pointing out items of interest along the way. Built between 548 and 565, this Orthodox Greek monastery is situated at the base of a mountain and is protected by massive fortress-style walls. Within the exterior you will see the largest collection of religious manuscripts and codices outside of the Vatican, as well as irreplaceable art works such as mosaics, chalices and numerous icons. Legend has it the living bush contained within the monastery walls is the same burning bush seen by Moses. The compound was named after Catherine of Alexandria, an early Christian martyr who was be-headed.

From there you will continue on to the small, seaside town of Dahab. Over the years this former Bedouin outpost has been transformed into a highly-sought after beach and scuba diving destination. Take a tour of the city and do some shopping then enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before your return trip back to port.
