Marietas Island Snorkel

Marietas Island Snorkel

Your exciting journey begins with a scenic and adrenaline-pumping small boat ride to Marietas Islands National Park. Also known as the Mexican Galapagos, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was formed long ago by volcanic activity. Recently declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO MAB, the area now protects 44 species of flora and fauna found in different risk categories. This provides sanctuaries for reproduction, feeding and resting for some of the migratory seabirds like the blue-footed booby.

The archipelago is two formations of uninhabited islands, long island and round island, dominated by large caves and cliffs that protect coral reefs and multi-colored tropical fishes. Different species of beautiful corals inhabit these areas, and of course, many different species of colorful fish enjoy the safety and productivity of the surrounding waters.

This is also a bird’s paradise where a vast colony of seabirds such as the Magnificent Frigate, egrets, herons, seagulls, pelicans, brown boobies and the world famous Galapagos Blue-footed Booby, will undoubtedly keep you engaged as you tour one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in Mexico’s Pacific Coast.

Snorkeling at numerous locations within the pristine islands will provide a distinctly unique perspective of the beautiful life of the tropical reef and its many underwater inhabitants. With a little luck and patience, you might spot King Angelfish, Panamic Sergeant Majors, Cortez Chubs, Giant Damselfish, Moorish Idol, Rainbow Wrasse, and many more.

Protecting the uniqueness of the park requires strict regulations including closures each Tuesday of the hidden beach area and the mandatory use of a helmet and lifejacket if allowed to visit Round Island’s hidden beach. Entrance is heavily regulated and not guaranteed, and admittance is restricted to persons between the ages of 10 to 65 years old.

This adventure to the Mexican Galapagos is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Please Note: The port fee is included in the cost of the tour.
