Mega Island Tour

Mega Island Tour

This tropical St. Kitts excursion starts with a pickup at the pier where you, your guide, and other guests will set off on a sightseeing island tour as you drive through the historical, bi-cultural (French/English) city of Basseterre. The drive to Basseterre is approximately a 20-25 minute drive from the port.

Along the way, you will pass the National Museum, the Berkeley Memorial, and Independence Square (formerly Pall Mall Square) while listening to your guide explain the mega island’s complex history. Since 1750, Independence Square was the center of government and business. As you will hear on your St Kitts tour, African slaves were housed nearby and traded in the square until it was outlawed in the 19th-century. Thereafter, you’ll head off to the coast for the Carving of De Rocks, but not before passing some of the other historic city’s prime landmarks, including the city’s many churches.

Tropical St. Kitts has had a dangerous history, well-deserving of its current peace. On your route to the Carving of De Rocks, you will pass the War Memorial, dedicated to remembering those servicemen who gave their lives in the World Wars. You will also see more St. Kitts sights on your tour, including the Bird’s Nest, the Bloody Point, and Old Ruins Plantation. Your guide will explain the incredible significance of each of these landmarks.

Next, head through the lush rainforest, more than a quarter of the landmass to pass by the sugar plantations, previously farmed by slaves for two centuries, and on to the beautiful Botanical Garden and Romney Manor, a 17th-century sugar plantation. There you will find Caribelle Batik (entrance fee included in tour price), which produces high-quality crafts made in the traditional batik style for you to admire or purchase as a souvenir. The Botanical Garden, Romney Manor, and Caribelle Batik are all located near to each other, therefore you will be able to walk around and explore the area for about a half-hour before setting off to the historic Brimstone Hill Fortress.

Following Caribelle Batik, you will venture off on a 20-minute drive to Brimstone Hill Fortress (entrance fee included in tour price), built in the 1600s by the British to defend the island, and now converted into a museum. Once you arrive, you will have approximately 45 minutes to explore, take pictures, and embrace all the amazing sights this historic landmark provides.

After the fortress, you take about a 15-minute drive to the historic Black Rocks for beautiful views of the mega island. Your guide will point out other highlights and historical facts along the way. Timothy Hill is the last stop on this tour where you will visit the South East Peninsula, where the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea meet. Have your cameras handy, as this is a sight to capture before heading back to your ship! Reserve this complete St. Kitts tour for a pleasant day of sightseeing.

Please Note: This island tour includes all entrance fees, which are needed for admission to Caribelle Batik and Brimstone Hill Fortress. Wheelchairs may be accommodated with advance notice for an additional fee of $25 US (not included), which is paid directly to the local representative before the tour departs.
