Pompeii and Herculaneum with Lunch
Spend the day immersed in 1st-century Roman life with this 8-hour cultural tour of the archeological ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. These cities were 2 of the 5 cities where life literally stopped in its tracks with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius on that fateful day in August 79 A.D. The resulting volcanic ash and pumice resulted in perfectly preserved ruins, giving you a snapshot of the everyday life of the thousands of inhabitants in these seaside towns.
Ancient Pompeii was a bustling port city and its neighbor Herculaneum was a wealthier town filled with fine, marble-clad housing. Walk past houses, shops, squares, brothels, and more as you imagine what life was like in the moments before the lava started flowing. You will see natural molds of human bodies, animals, everyday objects, and even food.
The beauty of Roman architecture is on full display here through marvelous villas and public buildings including the Villa Dei Misteri, the Forum, Macellum (market), and the local amphitheater. Take a break in between archeological sites with a delicious pizza lunch.
