Your journey to these 3 remarkable islands begin as you depart from St. Mark’s Basin with its breathtaking views and make your way to the northern end of the Venetian lagoon. Your first stop will be at Murano Island, also known as The Glass Island due to resident artists crafting the world renowned Murano glass. Watch in amazement at the manual skills of a master craftsman showing how a glass masterpiece comes to life.
From there you will head to the Fisherman Island of Burano and be greeted by a rainbow collection of bright, colorful houses. Legend has it the color of these homes were chosen by a local fisherman as a way to help them find their way back home from the sea. The quiet island of Burano is a photographer’s paradise with its simple, peaceful atmosphere, which is a welcome respite from the typical touristy areas. While here, be sure to pop into one of the shops to see and purchase its rare artisan lace.
Your final stop will be to Torcello, or the Eternal Island. Torcello was the first island in the Venetian lagoon to be populated and, in its heyday, was a thriving center. Today this mystical island houses a small number of inhabitants against a timeless backdrop of wild greenery.
