West Bay Beach Resort Getaway

West Bay Beach Resort Getaway

Located near the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the largest barrier reef in the Caribbean Sea (second largest worldwide after Australia’s Great Barrier Reef), Roatan has become an important cruise eco-tourism destination in Honduras.

Meet your local tour guide and set off from the pier learning about some of Roatan’s history and culture as you make your way to West Bay. The island rests on an exposed ancient coral reef, rising to about 270 meters (890ft.) above sea level. Most inhabitants live in the western half of the island as Roatan is the most developed and largest of the Bay Islands. This place is truly a snorkeling and diving paradise as almost the entire coastline is accompanied by an array of different coral reefs that brilliant tropical fish call home. Back on land, experience soft, white-sand beaches like those in West Bay. Make a stop at a local rum factory to learn some of the history of rum and then tease your palette with some samples.

Your destination is at a private resort with access to the facilities, including chairs, changing rooms, bathrooms, fresh-water shower, and Wi-Fi. You will find activities such as kayaking, scuba diving, and offshore snorkeling are available (for an additional cost). You will discover for yourself that Roatan’s beaches are some of the finest and breath-taking in the Caribbean.

Be welcomed with a complimentary beverage and then the day is yours to spend how you wish, indulge in the resort amenities and activities and spend some time relaxing at the beach without a care in the world. The crystal-clear, amazing water is perfect for swimming and the beach, or if you wish, simply sink your toes in the long stretch of white-sand or take a stroll. There is also a small gift shop with souvenirs and meals are not included but food is available for purchase at your own discretion.

Day 1 Roatan is the largest of the eight islands known collectively as Las Islas de la Bahia (Bay Islands). Brilliant clear blue waters and palm fringed beaches are cooled by gentle trade winds. An extensive reef system offers the most spectacular diving and snorkeling in the Western hemisphere, while inland nature reserves give an up-close look at native wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, and parrots. After a day spent underwater, take time to shop and dine on local eats near the shores of French Harbor and Brick Bay.
