Newcastle's public transport network is extensive and consists of buses and ferries. There are numerous ticket types to choose from. There are timed tickets, Travel passes, Excursion tickets, Concession travel tickets and ferry tickets. Most tickets can be used on both buses and ferries. You can also purchase an Opal card, the smartcard ticketing system used to pay for travel on public transport, online or in the Newcastle area. Additionally, the light rail line is a convenient way to get around Newcastle's city centre. Trams run every 8 minutes from 7am to midnight on weekdays, and every 15 minutes on weekends.
