Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII

The Pope John XXIII, proclaimed Saint on April 27th, 2014 came from Sotto il Monte, a town 18 km far from Bergamo. The beloved places of the Pope are within a short distance: his birth-house, the Church of Santa Maria in Brusicco, where he was baptized, his summer-residence Cà Maitino, now transformed into a museum, the parish church, the Garden of Peace and the parish crypt.

Bergamo is the perfect city to enjoy a nice weekend or a longer stay. Just walking around the city center and finding a nice café to enjoy a good cup of coffee is relaxing itself. If you however are interested in one of the many galleries, then Galleria d´Arte Moderna e Contemporanea and Accademia Carrara is worth paying a visit to. If you love culture, you have come to the right city!
