In order to become a basilica, a church must be determined by the Pope to be of exceptional and ceremonial significance for the Catholic Church. Such is St. Mary's Basilica in Phoenix, which opens its doors for everyone to partake in its beauty. The stained glass windows and carillon tower are breathtaking, and its historic 1987 visit from Pope John Paul II serves to add to its grandeur. As daily mass is still celebrated, please be mindful of your attire and behavior.
